WASHINGTON, D.C. – Throughout the month of June, the Path Forward coalition is recognizing restaurant and retail businesses for the important workplace benefits and value they provide to their employees.
At a time when employees have expressed that they want to feel valued by their employer, the service sector offers benefits to help employees thrive in and out of the workplace and move up the pay scale. From at-work training and certification programs, to tuition reimbursement making it easier to attain an education that will advance careers, service sector jobs can offer myriad benefits beyond income. Many restaurant and retail workers also have the opportunity to take advantage of support with retirement, health care coverage, and financial planning, helping them gain peace of mind and overall job satisfaction.
“From the employees who show up every day with pride and ready to work hard to the customers and businesses that benefit, we all win when businesses invest in their employees. Flexible schedule offerings, support for educational pursuits, and other wellness and quality of life enhancements are just some of the ways companies in the service sector are invested in employee wellbeing and success. Beyond income, service jobs provide important benefits that let workers know their contributions are needed and valued, and help them achieve the promise of a better quality of life,” said Path Forward spokesperson Jamie Rhoades.
This monthly spotlight is the second in a series of initiatives that Path Forward will continue to roll out in the coming months, calling attention to different roles the service sector plays in empowering millions of people with the tools, benefits and skills they need to learn, grow and build lifelong careers.
Path Forward is a project of the National Retail Federation and the National Restaurant Association that serves as a voice for hundreds of thousands of job-creating businesses across the country that are invested in providing workers a path forward to new opportunities.
