Path Forward Spotlights Educational Opportunities Provided by the American Service Industry

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Throughout the month of August, the Path Forward Coalition is highlighting educational benefits provided by the service sector to support employee growth and development. Many restaurant and retail businesses around the country offer a number of educational opportunities, including undergraduate and graduate programs, partnerships with educational institutions, scholarships and grants, tuition assistance, and vocational training.

“As people prepare for the start of a new semester and the potential that comes with it, Path Forward is recognizing the service industry’s commitment to a wide variety of educational benefits that foster the professional growth and personal development of its employees,” said Path Forward spokesperson Jamie Rhoades. “Scholarships, tuition assistance, and vocational training programs are just some of the ways that retail and restaurant businesses are enabling workers to enhance their careers and earning potential. The service sector understands the value of investing in a diverse range of educational opportunities that empower workers with new skills to build their resumes and move up the career ladder.”

The National Retail Federation the National Restaurant Association also provide valuable education programs for students and employees in the service industry:

  • The National Retail Federation Foundation awards scholarships in collaboration with dozens of colleges and universities across the country to help finance education for retail employees and students who are rising stars in retail.

This monthly spotlight is the fourth in a series of initiatives that Path Forward will continue to roll out in the coming months, calling attention to different roles the service sector plays in empowering millions of people with the tools, benefits and skills they need to learn, grow and build lifelong careers.
